Public engagement

In accordance with what is being carried out at university level, the Department pursues a vision of dialogue with citizens and communities, in a knowledge-sharing project geared towards the development of local cultures.

Among its many projects, the Department has been a protagonist in the past in the UNISCO project and participates with its lecturers and students in the annual “Sharper - European Researchers” Night' event organised by the University. The 2024 edition featured lecturers and students from the Urban and Planning courses, in game-simulation activities for environmental risk management.

Among the activities carried out over the past few years, there have been public meetings on topics that reflect the multidisciplinary spirit that animates the Department, often in the direction of disseminating and raising awareness towards the goals of Agenda 2030, such as ‘The Energy Transition is Possible: Renewable Energy Communities’ as an information seminar/public debate to raise awareness on the use of renewable energy. Among many others, the events ‘Data and Inclusive Cities’ dedicated to Social and Digital Design and ‘The Science of Art’, conceived with the aim of offering a tool for the dissemination of Geological Sciences through the artistic contribution of painter Giuseppe Ciani. Many meetings with the public aimed at raising awareness and providing information on the important topic of aquatic ecology, such as ‘Toxic blooms of cyanobacteria in the Alpine region’ and ‘Microalgae and their ecology’.
